What are email notifications in iThenticate?
Users who are Admins and Principal Users can set up email notifications on shared folders to inform users when a similarity score has exceeded a custom threshold. Any user in the shared folder who has email notifications enabled will receive these notifications.
Notification emails are sent to the email address associated with your iThenticate account. This is typically the email address you used when signing up, unless you have updated it in your profile settings.
Enable email notifications
Email notifications are enabled from your account settings.
- Go to your account Settings area.
- Go to the Notifications tab.
- Select the ‘Enable Email Notifications’ option.
Setting up email notifications
Email notifications are set at folder level.
If your account uses nested folders, email notifications can only be set and managed on the top-level (parent) folder. Notifications cannot be configured separately for subfolders.
The Notifications tab within a folder is only available after the folder has been shared. When you first create a folder, the Notifications tab will not appear until sharing has been configured.
When you create or edit a folder, select the Notifications tab in the modal.
If you wish to receive email notifications, choose how often you would like to receive them:
- Every hour
- Once a day
- Every other day
- Once a week
This frequency will only occur if the thresholds set are met. Setting the frequency to hourly does not mean you’ll receive an email every hour, it means that you will receive an email an hour after a submission has met the threshold you have set.
Percentage options
You can select to receive notifications for either the overall similarity percentage or source similarity percentage.
Overall similarity percentage
If the similarity score percentage of a paper in the folder exceeds the threshold set, you will receive an email notification.
Source similarity percentage
If a submission contains a match to a source that exceeds the threshold set, you will receive an email notification.
For example, if you set your source similarity threshold to 50% and a submission is made that has a block of text that matches over 50% of a piece of content in our database, even if the overall similarity score of the paper is lower than 50% an email notification will still be sent.
